You have booked your first golf lesson in Marbella. You have never held a golf club before. What happens next?
This is one of the most common questions we receive from new clients. Whether you are on holiday with your partner, visiting with family, or simply looking for something different to do on the Costa del Sol, here is a step-by-step guide to what your first session looks like.
Before the lesson
You do not need any equipment. We provide everything — clubs, balls, tees… Wear comfortable clothing and trainers or sports shoes. Bring sunscreen and a cap, especially in summer. That is all you need.
Your coach will meet you at the golf facility and handle all logistics — check-in, equipment, and access to the practice area. There is nothing for you to arrange.
The first 20 minutes — getting started
We start at the practice area. Your coach shows you how to hold the club, how to stand, and how to make your first swing. This is not about theory or memorising rules — it is about getting you moving and hitting the ball as quickly as possible.
Most people make solid contact within the first 10 minutes. That moment when the ball flies off the club face for the first time is always a good one.
Building confidence
Once you have the basic motion, we work on different shots — short chips around the green, longer iron shots, and putting. Your coach adjusts the session based on what you enjoy and what comes naturally.
Some clients love the full swing immediately. Others prefer the precision of putting and chipping. There is no fixed programme — the lesson adapts to you.
The optional playing experience
If time and confidence allow, many beginners choose to play a few holes on the course. This is where golf truly comes alive — walking the fairway, choosing your shot, experiencing the views over the Andalusian hills and the Mediterranean in the distance.
Even playing just 3 or 4 holes after your lesson gives you a taste of what makes golf so addictive.
After the lesson
Your coach gives you a summary of what you learned and practical tips for your next session. If you want to continue during your stay, we can arrange follow-up lessons or a golf experience on a different course.
For those who fall in love with the game, we also offer intensive packages and a full Golf Licence course — so you can go from your first swing to being a licensed, federated golfer in as little as one week.
The most important thing
Your first golf lesson should be fun. It is not an exam. There is no right or wrong pace. Our job is to make sure you leave with a smile, a few good shots to remember, and — hopefully — the desire to come back.
